Liverpool's Rhian Brewster calls for action after suffering racist abuse

Brewster said UEFA have yet to hold an inquiry into an incident involving Russian side Spartak Moscow three weeks ago where he claims he was the target of a racist remark by opposing captain Leonid Mironov.

"We are all really happy about him, it's not a celebration you want a 17-year-old boy to be in but if it is like this and he needs help, we will give it to him of course".

"I got fouled. I was on the floor".

Kick It Out, a football anti-racism organisation, praised Brewster, who also said an England Under-17 team-mate Morgan Gibbs-White was called a "monkey" by a Spanish opponent during the World Cup final, for going public. Then their player leaned over me, right down to my face and said: 'Suck my dick, you nigger, you negro'. Brewster said in his Guardian interview. "As Morgan was running away, he (a Spain player) has called him a monkey".

In a statement released last night, the FA said: "We take such matters extremely seriously and have worked to provide support to our young players should they be the victims of such abhorrent behaviour while representing club or country".

"He [the referee] said to me he couldn't do anything because he hadn't heard it and "the only thing I can do is report it". That is how it feels anyway".

Just recently, Raheem Sterling was racially abused prior to a Premier League match for Manchester City and Gardaí confirmed they are investigating racist abuse directed at Cyrus Christie.

"I didn't even want to put in a complaint".

"I'm thinking to myself: 'Well, I'm standing behind a banner but does it really stop them from saying it?'"

Brewster claimed Uefa need to take racism more seriously in a national newspaper interview he requested, leading to messages of support from the likes of Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, politician Ed Miliband and chart star Stormzy. UEFA's disciplinary regulations stipulate that any player found guilty of racist abuse should be banned for a minimum of 10 matches.
