Weapons and ammunition found in Hyatt Hotel room, suspect under arrest

Less than 24 hours before party goers were set to pack the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Downtown police made a major arrest.

The officer called for what's been described as urgent backup around 1:30 a.m. when his attempts to subdue the man failed.

Houston police arrested an intoxicated man with a cache of weapons in his hotel room early Sunday, according to local media reports. Hotel staff said he was drunk at the bar, and refused to leave. When help arrived, police noticed ammunition laying around the man's hotel room, Lt. Gordon Macintosh with Houston police said. The Hyatt Regency Downtown is scheduled to host its annual New Year's Eve celebration tonight. An off-duty Houston Police Department officer encountered a man who was acting erratically and belligerent. The man faces charges of unauthorized carrying of weapons.

"At this point, our investigators do not believe there was any kind of intent by him to use the weapons or to cause any kind of issue".
