Turnovers spell doom for MI in Outback Bowl collapse

Through the better part of three quarters, the Outback Bowl looked was a snoozer and MI looked like it was on its way to an easy win. Unfortunately for the Wolverines and their fans, the team came up short, falling to SC by a touchdown in the Outback Bowl.

The Wolverines were up 6-3 against SC with seconds left in the first half, when kicker Qunn Nordin nailed a 45-yarder to put MI up 9-3 at the half. The Gamecocks took advantage of some costly MI turnovers to score 20 straight points to take its first lead in the fourth quarter. One play later, Bentley found sophomore star Bryan Edwards high in the end zone for this 21-yard touchdown to suddenly make the score 19-16 in favor of MI. That made the Big Ten's record this bowl season 7-1 and dropped Jim Harbaugh to 1-2 in bowl games at MI.

MI ended its underachieving 2017 season Monday with a massive thud. Moreover, it was the turnover issue which really did the Wolverines in.

MI controlled the game until a third-quarter fumble by Karan Higdon, which opened the floodgates for the Gamecocks.

Brandon Peters completed 20 of 44 pass attempts for 186 yards and two interceptions. Peters' deep heave sailed high over the head of his intended target, giving SC a chance to ice the game - one squandered by a missed 48-yard field goal. Turnovers once again plagued the Wolverines.
