Wenger banned for three games after referee blast

Wenger will serve his latest ban at Arsenal's FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Chelsea on January 10 and the league game against Bournemouth on January 14.

Wenger was furious following the late decision from referee Mike Dean to give West Brom a penalty for an apparent handball by Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

After a hearing on Friday, the Football Association (FA) confirmed Wenger has been given a three-match ban, meaning he will miss Sunday afternoon's (Monday morning AEDT) FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest, the first leg of Arsenal's EFL Cup semi-final at Chelsea and a Premier League game at Bournemouth.

A £40,000 fine is also part of the punishment.

Wenger said referees were living in the dark ages and even siding against his team after a series of refereeing decisions - including against West Brom on Sunday and Chelsea on Wednesday - cost Arsenal dearly.

However, that ban could yet be extended if the FA decide to extend the charge in the wake of his comments both before and after Wednesday's 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

"I respect everyone's opinion".

"I have been asked [to respond] and I maintain what I said, 100%", Wenger added.

"Imagine, I am 21 years in the game and what I've seen and heard in corridors - I'm surprised and shocked to be charged". "I have nothing to change in that", the Gunners boss said.

"I try to serve this game with honestly and integrity".

"I think it was a yellow card for Hazard".

Wenger exchanged frank words with referee Mike Dean after the match, an argument that continued into the referees' changing room.

"You have your opinion and I have my opinion and I've been in the game long enough to know that everybody can have a different opinion".
