Rajon Rondo questions why Celtics would honor IT

Celtics legend Paul Pierce has made sure that the day the Celtics retire his No. 34 to the rafters of TD Garden, which will be on February 11 when the Cavaliers return to Boston, will be about The Truth, The Whole Truth, and nothing but The Truth.

Ainge had previously said he didn't think having a short pre-game video would take away from a night that would otherwise be devoted to honoring Pierce, even as some have questioned whether Thomas's accomplishments even merited such an honor.

Isaiah Thomas, injured, couldn't participate in the Cleveland Cavaliers' first game in Boston since the Celtics had traded him for Kyrie Irving. He wanted to have the tribute on a night he could suit up with his family in attendance, and has said he did not initially believe the request would interfere with Pierce's night.

While a member of the Boston Celtics, point guard Isaiah Thomas achieved more than anyone thought was possible for as 5'9 player in the National Basketball Association.

"Danny (Ainge) tried to sell me on it, but I told him, 'He had a shot, Danny, and he punked you on it".

It's really unfortunate that what was supposed to be a wonderful celebration - and a gesture of goodwill after a brutal business-decision trade - for Isaiah Thomas has been tainted by the coincidence that it occurs on the same day as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony. Rondo asked Bill Doyle of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. "No disrespect to any other organization but [the Celtics] don't hang conference titles". Rondo asked in regards to Thomas, apparently not impressed by Thomas' incredible performance last season in which he lead the Celtics to the conference finals.

An Eastern Conference finals rematch on the court, interspersed with tributes to a Celtics legend.

Since he took part in delivering a championship to the Celtics, Rondo believes that a tribute video is only mandatory for those that are part of a championship team in Boston. What do we hang here?

Additionally, two of Pierce's other former Celtics teammates, Kevin Garnett and Tony Allen, also showed support for #34. "[Thomas] didn't put in more work than Paul". Paul Pierce put in big work, man. Let my man get his jersey retired, man. Let him embrace that, man. I remember losing 19 straight with that man.

"(Thomas) had a shot to be honored", Pierce said.
