AIMPLB Member Salman Nadvi Supports Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Board Miffed

The SC asked the parties to complete the process in two weeks and posted the matter for hearing on March 14.

The bench that also comprised Justices Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer also clarified that it was not in favour of day-to-day hearings as proposed by senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan who represents the Sunni Waqf Board.

The Apex Court also clarified that it never meant to hear the case on 'day-to-day basis'.

To prevent passions from trumping legal arguments, the bench said, "Whatever be the case, it is after all a land dispute".

A bench of the Supreme Court is likely to resume hearing today on a batch of petitions over Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site. They challenge the Allahabad high court verdict that mandated a three-way division of the disputed 2.77 acre site. "What happened day before yesterday (December 5) was extremely shameful", Chief Justice Dipak Misra had said.

A three-judge bench of the Allahabad High Court, in a 2:1 majority ruling, had in 2010 ordered that the land be partitioned equally among three parties - the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

The state had also translated and filed depositions of 87 witnesses apart from the report of the Archaeological Survey of India (which carried out an archaeological study of the disputed site) and relevant photographs, Mehta said. "Many Muslim stakeholders are cooperating in this matter", an AOL statement said.

The petitions before the judges relate to the 2010 verdict of the Allahabad High Court in the title suit that had been pending for almost six decades.

A civil suit was also filed for deciding the title of the property on which the Babri Masjid stood. "What happened on 6 December was shameful". The decision, however, stayed in 2011.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPB), the apex body of Indian Muslims, on Friday ruled out any compromise on Babri Masjid, rejecting a proposal by one of its members Maulana Salman Nadvi reportedly supporting construction of Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

A special CBI court had on 30 March, framed criminal conspiracy charges against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. Since the mosque was built on orders of the Mughal emperor Babur, it was named Babri Masjid. However, senior counsel Harish Salve, who appeared on the other side, had said that it was "just a case" for the apex court and had nothing to do with the elections.
