Chicago Bulls trade Jameer Nelson to the Detroit Pistons

The Pistons also got the ball rolling on trade deadline day, making the first deals of any team as they sent out Reed and Johnson. James Ennis, who was also acquired by the Pistons, will not be available after getting stuck in bad weather today. The six-foot, 190-pound Nelson had not played a game with Chicago since being acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans on February 1st as part of the deal for Nikola Mirotic. He played in Chicago for just a week and is already on the move, again, to the #Detroit Pistons in exchange for big man Willie Reed. The 20th pick overall in the 2004 NBA Draft, Nelson is on a one-year contract for a reported $2.26 million this season. Reggie Jackson has been recovering from an injured ankle, leaving Ish Smith as the starter in that spot. With this deal the Pistons have now traded away both players who came along with Blake Griffin in last month's trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. Wherever Reed lands, he won't be available to play until February 25 thanks to a six-game suspension due to an offseason domestic violence incident.

While the Pistons are likely to part ways with Nelson after the season, there may have been a longer-term plan in place for Ennis. In 43 games with the Pelicans, Nelson averaged 5.1 points and 3.6 assists with a.520 true shooting percentage.

Detroit recently traded guard Avery Bradley and forward Tobias Harris to the Clippers in return for Blake Griffin. As part of this deal, Detroit gives Chicago the right to swap their 2022 second-round picks.

His role in Detroit Pistons is going to be very similar, because of Pistons All-Star center Andre Drummond who is very similar in athleticism to Dwight Howard and is a great rim protector.
