Mikaela Shiffrin waits again as women's slalom postponed

The women's slalom continues to be affected by weather conditions in Pyeongchang as the alpine skiing event is postponed for the second time this Winter Games.

Both the women's and men's alpine skiing events were postponed earlier this week as wind gusts reached 45 miles per hour, making it risky for the athletes to compete.

"It's pretty insane to think that it was 12 years ago since my first Olympic event and at the same time it does feel like yesterday if I think about it".

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea-Winter weather at the Winter Olympics is to be expected. North Korea's Kim Ryon-hyang was also set to make her debut.

He said it was good to finally get the skiing underway after races were delayed for two days due to high winds. Swiss standout Wendy Holdener finished second behind Shiffrin at the 2017 championships and earned gold in the combined event, showcasing her all-around talent.

The committee will also offer refunds to those who are unable to attend the rescheduled competition. Rebensburg has three World Cup giant slalom wins to Shiffrin's two this season.

It is this event which has delivered Taylor who lowest FIS points results, achieving top 10 finishes at Alpen Tour and US Super Tour races over the last three years.

NPR's Melissa Block tweeted a video from the Olympic Village of a camera that shows the slalom course.

The slalom runs take place Tuesday evening in the USA, and in the early hours of the morning in the United Kingdom and Europe on Wednesday-with the start scheduled for 10:15 a.m. local time.

"The event is something I've been really looking forward to all year, so I hope I can go out and deliver", said Taylor.

Of the weather delays, Paul Kristofic, the women's head alpine coach, said: "Everyone is a little bummed out when a day like this happens, but they do happen, so we're quite used to it".

"It is unfortunate that we weren't able to race today, but it is important we have a fair race for all of the athletes and today's conditions would definitely not have been fair".

On a cold night in Pyeongchang, Norway's hot favorite Maren Lundby, 23, took gold in the women's normal hill with a huge final leap of 110 meters to beat Katharina Althaus.

"Neither of those were achievable today".
