YouTube Stars Targeted by Gunman in Home Invasion

The duo were forced to call Austin Police from the enclosed space after the man, identified as New Mexico local Christopher Giles, fired at least one round in their home in the early hours of Monday morning (local time).

Christopher Giles, described by police as "single, lonely and disturbed", travelled for 11 hours from New Mexico to the couple's home hundreds of miles away in Austin.

Giles reportedly fired gunshots inside and outside of the house, causing police to return fire.

When Austin police arrived, they had a brief altercation with Giles in the driveway.

A spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department said the case is under investigation and she could not answer any additional questions about it.

Police say an official ruling into how Giles died is still under review. Moments later, police said they found Giles dead.

"I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and concern regarding the recent indecent", Gavin tweeted.

Police later found cell phone recordings made by Giles in which he made clear his obsession with Meg and hatred of her boyfriend.

The couple hid in a closet and updated the 911 dispatcher as Giles, 23, rooted through their home looking for the pair. Hearing glass breaking, the couple hid and called 911. "Based on the footage seen, it was apparent that Giles' sole intent was to cause harm to someone who resides there", police documented in a search warrant.

The couple were said to have taken refuge in the cupboard while the intruder searched the house. The search revealed Giles "was an avid player of video games and was known for watching YouTube videos". His phone was full of notes centering on Turney, whose YouTube videos run the gamut from relationship advice to online gaming to her popular "Ask Meg" segment. Some of the notes allegedly said things like "I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children".

An armed intruder broke into Free and Turney's Texas home on January 26.

Ms Turney added: "Thank y'all so, so much for each and every kind message today and a special thank you to the Austin Police for their quick response that night and their ongoing support during this hard time".
