England scrum against Georgia during Six Nations rest week

Eddie Jones has criticised World Rugby for publicly admitting the TMO, Glenn Newman, was wrong to disallow Gareth Anscombe's try during England's 12-6 victory over Wales, suggesting that doing so shows a lack of respect towards the referee.

Gareth Anscombe saw a try ruled out in the first half at Twickenham, despite replays suggesting he beat Anthony Watson to ground the ball.

With it being a fallow week during the Six Nations, there is more preparation time before England look to make it three wins from three against Scotland on Saturday 24 February.

But on Tuesday a spokesman for the global governing body said: "World Rugby has clarified to the Wales team management as part of the usual review process with teams that the TMO made an error in the application of law during the England versus Wales match at Twickenham".

Rob Howley was speaking to the media today and according to BBC Sport, the assistant coach confirmed that World Rugby's Alain Rolland agreed that the try should have stood.

But Wales coach Warren Gatland claimed Newman made "a bad mistake" and most television pundits, including former England players and coaches, felt the Kiwi TMO got it wrong.

"It was good to have dialogue with World Rugby".

"There was plenty of time left after that decision", he added. "We managed to move them side to side, their tight forwards were getting exhausted and I managed to sneak through a couple of holes".

England head coach Eddie Jones also recalled British & Irish Lions forwards James Haskell and Joe Marler who were suspended for the opening two rounds.

Do you think the decision will affect the outcome of the Six Nations?

"He has not made a commitment saying I will only play for England, I am sure he is still working it out in his head. The game's done and dusted, so we've got to trust the referees and respect their integrity".

"That's why he is one of the world's best players - not just the effect he has on the game as an individual, but the effect he has the people around him". That's one of the traditions of rugby, you get on with it, you respect the decision.

"At this moment, the redness of the foot and the infection is okay", Howley said, of Halfpenny.
