Bruce McArthur now charged with 6 murders

The Toronto man was a subject of Project Prism, and police have said he had a sexual relationship with McArthur.

Though police expect to find more victims beyond the human remains in the planters, they say the entire investigation process could "go in to the years".

August 2015 - Soroush Mahmudi, 50, of Toronto, is reported missing.

Toronto police have laid a new murder charge against an alleged serial killer who is believed to have preyed upon men from the city's gay community for years, bringing the total number of people he's accused of killing to six.

Idsinga says Navaratnam's remains - and those of five other people - were found in large planters at a residential property where 66-year-old McArthur worked as a landscaper.

McArthur was charged last month with 49-year-old Kinsman's death, as well as the presumed death of 44-year-old Selim Esen. He also said police believe they are working with multiple murder scenes.

Investigators have said there are likely more victims but have "no idea" how many more.

"There's even some ... occurrences where there's been a sudden death that we're looking at", he said.

Work is underway to identify the three other sets of remains, Idsinga said, noting that police could be dealing with more victims not yet named in the list of charges. Excavation at that property ended on February 14 and the home was released back to its owners after officers said no other human remains were found.

Police are also looking at two other properties in the city, and have reached out to police forces overseas, where McArthur may have travelled, for help.

According to local media, police made a quick decision to enter McArthur's home and arrest him on January 18 when they saw a young man enter his flat.

Police excavated a drain in front of a house linked to McArthur on February 13 and have been searching other properties linked to him.
