Packers release wide receiver Jordy Nelson

Teams can not officially sign players until Wednesday, March 14, but a big chunk of high profile free agents have already reached agreements with new teams.

Jordy Nelson's time in Green Bay is probably over.

The tag for tight ends will run teams around $10 million this year, but Graham was already making that.

An NFL source confirmed that the Packers have deals in place with both Graham and Wilkerson.

"Our foundation is going to be the draft, but I think (free agency is) an absolute must as an (additional) piece", said Gutekunst on January 8.

Aaron Rodgers will have to find a new favorite target because the Green Bay Packers have released Jordy Nelson.

In a corresponding move, Green Bay is also releasing Jordy Nelson, according to Schefter.

Graham was a free agent and chose the Packers over the Saints, the team he played for before the Seahawks.

He's racked up 556 catches for 6,800 yards and 69 touchdowns.

Whether Graham can regain that form in Green Bay is hard to say, but tight end clearly was a need for the Packers.

Nelson wasn't the fastest receiver ever to put on a Packers uniform, nor was he the best route runner.

Nelson has been a fixture on the team for the last 11 years on and off the field.

Nelson's production waned after Aaron Rodgers was out for the season after breaking his collar bone last season.

The 31-year old has been one of the top tight ends in the NFL since entering the league in 2010 with New Orleans. It's the fourth time in his career that he's scored 10 or more touchdowns in a season.

It'll be interesting to hear Rodgers' reaction to losing one of his closest allies and most trusted weapon on the heels of good pal and QB coach Alex Van Pelt being shown the door. "But that's obviously a position we're looking at heavily right now".

Nelson's release figures to foreshadow more moves for the Packers, who could use an upgrade at tight end.
