Sam Bradford to sign 1-year deal with Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals had a vital need at quarterback after Carson Palmer's retirement.

The Cardinals are set to sign former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

According to ESPN and NFL.com, the 30-year-old's one-year contract - for which $15m of the $20m is guaranteed - also contains an option for a second season at another $20m, meaning he could ultimately earn $40m through 2019.

Carrera's path to the majors began when he first signed with New York Mets as an amateur free agent in April 2005 out of Guiria, Venezuela.

Bradford, the first Sooner to surpass 8,000 career passing yards, was drafted first overall by St. Louis in 2010, then sustained ACL tears in 2013 and 2014. He'll manage the offense, complete a high percentage of his passes (71.8 percent of them in his two seasons in Minnesota) and limit turnovers (just five interceptions in his past 17 games). After making $18 million in 2017 and playing in just two games because of knee issues, he actually gets a raise that would bring his career earnings to $134 million for his first nine National Football League seasons.

In short, he could be the flawless bridge quarterback for a team that'll pick No. 15 overall in April's draft.

Staying on the offense, the offensive line is a unit that could use some upgrading, as the Cardinal quarterbacks were sacked a combine 52 times in 2017.

The last time Bradford was healthy for almost an entire season, he was one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL.

He was never the same, though, after suffering a mysterious knee injury. He started 15 games for Minnesota in 2016 but was replaced by Case Keenum, who led the Vikings to the NFC Championship when Bradford went down with a knee injury.
