Trainspotting's Danny Boyle set to direct new James Bond film

If there's one thing that we certainly don't need right now, it's another Die Hard movie, especially one from a Bruce Willis who's phoned it in with just about every role that he's taken on in recent years.

Boyle says the two are "working on a script at the moment".

Ever since Spectre's release in 2015, we've been left to speculate over everything to do with James Bond's 25th outing.

Danny Boyle has confirmed he and his writing partner are working on a script for the next James Bond movie. "But we are working on them both right now", revealed Boyle. Earlier reports indicated Boyle and Hodge had a specific idea for the new Bond movie, separate from the screenplay MGM and Eon were developing with Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Skyfall, Spectre, Casino Royale). And it all depends on how it turns out.

After Daniel Craig confirmed that he would be returning for one last time as Bond people started theorising over who would direct. Names like Christopher Nolan, Edgar Wright, Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie were thrown around, but in the end, Boyle came out from seemingly nowhere to become the frontrunner.

The British filmmaker has already directed Craig as Bond once before, when they filmed a skit which also featured Queen Elizabeth II for the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Daniel Craig is set to return to the franchise, marking his fifth appearance as the character and putting him just behind Sean Connery with the third most appearances. Additional details regarding distribution, including worldwide release dates, the film's cast and director, will be announced at a later date.

James Bond 25 will be released in November 2019. The film earned $200 million domestically and $680.6 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $880.7 million.
