Remains Found in California Believed to Be Missing Actress

Officials said that an autopsy conducted Wednesday morning confirmed the human remains found in California were those of missing model-actress Adea Shabani. They also said they believe her boyfriend, 33-year-old Christopher Spotz, was involved in her death but could not elaborate how as they continue to investigate.

Shabani, 25, was last seen on security camera around 1:15 p.m. on February 23 near her Hollywood home, police said.

Investigators had been trying to contact Spotz since Shabani's friends reported her missing on February 25.

Discrepancies in Spotz's alibi raised warning bells but he disappeared before police could track him down for further questioning.

Spotz said he and Shabani had an argument in the Santa Clarita area just outside of Los Angeles and that he let her out on the side of a freeway and hadn't seen her again. "We can not say that conclusively at this point in time because the condition of the remains prohibited positive identification", he continued, adding that they believed Shabani's boyfriend, Christopher Spotz, was "somehow involved in her death".

"We tried calling her, messaging her, emailing her, Facebooking her, Instagramming her-every way, nothing", said Antonio Esocvar, a friend.

When detectives were unable to verify Spotz's claims, detectives with the LAPD's Robbery & Homicide Team took over the investigation. According to the LAPD, Shabani was last seen leaving her home on 1700 block of Wilcox Avenue.

Following her disappearance, Shabani's mother flew from Macedonia to LA to help with the research.

A auto chase ensued, and Spotz eventually used a handgun to shoot himself in the head.

Captain Hayes said the aspiring actress is now believed to be dead and a homicide investigation has been launched. At some point, information led authorities to the lake at the Woods Wildlife Area in Nicholas, California, but were not successful in finding anything.

Shabani was a student at Stella Adler Academy of Acting, located in the heart of Hollywood, across the street from where the Oscars are held. "He was whatever you needed at that moment". On March 1, Spotz and his fiancee - not Shabani - headed for his parents' home in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call LAPD's Missing Persons Unit at 213-996-1800, or 877-527-3247 during non-business hours or on weekends.
