Shujaa loses to Fiji in Hong Kong sevens final

Fiji face Kenya in the final of the tournament.

Fiji's march towards a record fourth straight Hong Kong Sevens crown gathered pace with two more victories on Saturday but the U.S. may be the ones to stand in their way.

Kenya's Collins Injera, left, runs for a try past New Zealand's Luke Masirewa during their semifinal match at the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament in Hong Kong. Native media reported 4 individuals had been killed, whereas hundreds of properties have been flooded.

The situation could further deteriorate with another storm system expected to pass through the country early next week.

"It is nice to have finished this for the individuals of Fiji and people who have been affected by the floods in Fiji", defined Fiji coach Gareth Baber.

Fiji won a fourth successive Hong Kong Sevens after pouncing on Kenya's ill-discipline and errors to take the final 24-12 on Sunday.

Fiji scored four tries and converted two against Kenya's Billy Odhiambo and Skipper Oscar Ouma which was converted by Eden Agero for a 24-12 win for the Fijians.

Captain Seremaia Tuwai, speaking after today's final in the Hong Kong Stadium, said: "I'd like to thank my boys for the team effort and thank the Kenyan team for a good game".

To do so at the famed Hong Kong tournament made it an experience to savour, Randle said before kick-off.

Kenya last won the main cup in 2016 after beating Fiji 30-7 and last beat Fiji 17-14 at the USA Sevens, the fifth leg of the Series.

With their top squad preparing for next week's Commonwealth Games rugby sevens on the Gold Coast, Australia fielded eight debutants at the iconic event on the world series calendar.

Japan can be one among two Asian qualifiers that can contest the World Cup Sevens in San Francisco in July.
