Trump Says He'll Meet Kim Jong-un in May or Early June

North Korea leader Kim Jong-un discussed talks with the US at a party meeting, state media reported Tuesday, in his first official mention of dialogue with Washington before a summit with US President Donald Trump. They 've said. We've said. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the news.

"The U.S. has confirmed that Kim Jong Un is willing to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", an administration official said.

The date and location of the summit have not been announced.

A meeting between the USA president and the leader of North Korea would be unprecedented and Trump's surprise decision in March to agree to talks set officials scrambling to arrange the high-stakes sit down.

"Kim Jong Un is ready", she said after Kim met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

"We have a meeting that is being set up with North Korea".

Following multiple media reports of back-channel talks between the Cold War rivals, Trump said on Monday he planned to meet Kim in 'May or early June'.

The Kim-China meeting was at first shrouded in mystery, as it was not initially confirmed, but rather speculated that Kim had traveled to China for an unannounced meeting.

It was through these channels that Kim let the U.S. president know that denuclearisation was on the table in any talks between the two leaders.

Kim gave a "profound analysis and appraisal" of the prospects for North Korea-US dialogue at a meeting of the Politburo of the ruling party's Central Committee, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

A possible meeting between the nations was originally the product of South Korea's efforts in February during the Winter Olympics.

Comparing Pyongyang's perspective to a "one-sided" match of the traditional Korean board game of Go, Kim said the DPRK believes it has everything to gain and nothing to lose at the summit.

Mr Kim is a notoriously heavy smoker and his former spy chief was reportedly left frozen in terror when Chung Eui-yong, the director of the South Korean National Security Council, told him to consider quitting cigarettes during a conversation over dinner in Pyongyang last month.

The reports said USA and North Korean officials have held secret contacts recently in which Pyongyang directly confirmed its willingness to hold the unprecedented summit.

The United States military now has about 28,000 troops stationed in South Korea and has built a huge base south of Seoul partly to get out of range of North Korea's conventional artillery.
