April 10 Is Equal Pay Day

In a statement released by the National Partnership for Women and Families, a state-by-state analysis released for Equal Pay Day reveals that a woman employed full time, year-round in California is typically paid just 88 cents for every dollar paid to a man - a yearly pay difference of $5,928.

The other issue with negotiation is that women often start from the position of being underpaid in the past, undermining their ability to negotiate up to a comparable salary as their male colleagues, Harris says.

"We are committed to make working at Bombardier inclusive and accessible to all, but today some groups remain significantly under-represented, including women - a problem throughout the wider rail and engineering industry", he said in a report. "There's absolutely no excuse for women to be paid less than men, all things being equal". "One day, the gender wage gap will impact your wives, your children, and your joint income".

Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women make 87 cents for every white man's dollar, according to the organization, and therefore AAPI Equal Pay Day is on February 22. If the gap were eliminated, for example, the extra money earned by the average woman in Colorado would be equivalent to 8.6 months of childcare, 6.9 months of rent, or 0.7 additional years of tuition and fees for a four-year public university, according to the study. This year, AAUW estimates that this day falls on April 10, also known as Equal Pay Day. Black and biracial women made just 64 cents for every dollar a man made, and Latina women made just 56 cents for every dollar a man made.

But, A PayScale survey of over 2,000,000 people comparing jobs in the same occupation, with the same experience and education, finds that the pay gap is less than three cents. Not only does the gap exists, but research points to a complicated mix of bias and occupational choices that create a pervasive cycle of lower earnings for women.

"Prohibiting city departments from asking job applicants about salary history during the hiring process eliminates the possibility of basing wages on a worker's previous pay and continuing the cycle of wage inequality", Choi was quoted as saying.

In 2017, women were 21% more likely to achieve top performer status than men.

The narrowing of the gap has slowed substantially in recent years - in fact, at the current pace the wage gap won't be closed until the year 2058. The Act amends the New Jersey Law against Discrimination.

By now, you might be feeling a little annoyed about this, but the worst part is that it sucks way more for women of color.
