Twitter Ablaze Over Theresa May Not Being Invited to Prince Harry's Wedding

Kensington Palace announced Tuesday that political leaders from within the United Kingdom and overseas will not be given those coveted spots on the guest list - meaning that even Britain's own prime minister, Theresa May, did not score an invite, according to the Daily Mail.

A schoolgirl born with one leg who became a charity ambassador and mental health champion has been picked to attend the royal wedding.

Harry and Meghan will Wednesday next month.

That decision, made in part due to Harry's lower place in the line of succession to the throne, means that political leaders will be largely excluded from the celebration.

Fans of the Prince Harry-Obama bromance or the prince's always delightful interactions with Michelle Obama shouldn't be too concerned.

Though Prince Harry is friendly with the Obamas, it is thought he and his bride will meet them in the near future, possibly during an official overseas visit once they are married.

President Obama did not attend Prince William's wedding, but leaders from commonwealth countries including Australia and New Zealand were on the guest list. British Prime Minister Theresa May didn't score a Save the Date either, according to CNN.

The ex-commander in chief and first lady "will not be attending" the royal nuptials on May 19 at Windsor Castle, as first reported by ABC News, "but the couples look forward to seeing each other soon".

The nature of the guests, likely to be friends, work colleagues and good acquaintances of the couple, and the smaller venue, reflects Harry's position.

Unlike the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, this royal wedding is not an official state occasion and is regarded as a private ceremony, so there is no onus on the couple to invite political leaders.

The engagement of the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II sparked a flurry of speculation that Trump may be on the guest list - especially as Markle is a US citizen. Previous President Barack Obama also supported Harry's Invictus Games in September 20 17.

Meanwhile, members of the public from around the United Kingdom have this week learned they will be amongst the 2640 people at the Windsor Castle wedding.

- Amelia Thompson, 12, from Yorkshire, who was caught up in and left traumatized by the Manchester Arena attack in May 2017.

"The bunch has asked that the people selected are out of a wide assortment of backgrounds and ages, for example young men and women who've demonstrated strong leadership, and those who have served their houses", the palace said in an statement.

But Harry and Meghan will extend some special invitations beyond close friends and relatives, with their decision to include members of the British public in their wedding.
