`Missiles are coming´ - Trump warns of imminent military action Syria

The United Nations Security Council rejected a counter resolution drafted by Russian Federation on investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

A top Russian lawmaker warned on Tuesday that Moscow could respond with military force to a potential US strike on Syria in the wake of a deadly chemical weapon attack.

The apparent decision by the White House to conduct a missile strike comes after Russian Federation claimed the Syrian government shot down several Israeli cruise missiles over the weekend. "The US position was that they were negotiating in good faith, but the world is watching for the council to act". Bolivia voted against it alongside Russian Federation, while China abstained.

U.S. President Donald Trump (2nd-R) speaks in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, April 9, 2018, at the start of a meeting with military and national security leaders.

"You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"

The White House sharply rejected any suggestion that Trump's own words about pulling USA troops out of Syria had opened the door for the attack, which killed more than 40 people, including children.

"The day we prayed would never come has come again", Haley said.

"History will record this as the moment when the Security Council either discharged its duty or demonstrated its utter and complete failure to protect the people of Syria", Haley declared.

"Either way, the United States will respond".

The Sound and Picture Organization, an activist collective in eastern Syria, said that Iranian fighters and members of Lebanon's Hezbollah group have evacuated their positions in the Boukamal area, near Iraq's border.

CGTN's Mike Walter spoke with Daniel Serwer about what options are on the table in response to an alleged chemical attack in Syria.

A resolution needs nine votes in favour and no vetoes by Russia, China, France, Britain or the United States to pass.

The resolutions proposed today "are not about Douma, let's not mislead anyone about that", Nebenzya said, having noted that the United States has already reached its conclusion on the matter without any investigation at all. The move is apparently aimed at averting military action by the USA and other countries.

May, wary of the domestic political risks of promising military action, has so far focused on the need to discover the facts about the attack and establish a common global response.

The US proposal would have revived the work of a previous panel, known as the Joint Investigative Mechanism, that shut down in November when Russian vetoed the renewal of its mandate.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons announced that they will deploy a fact-finding team to investigate allegations about a suspected chemical attack to Syria's Douma.
