How to watch Microsoft's Build keynotes this week

Microsoft today held its Build developers conference.

DJI and Microsoft are already working together to advance technology for precision farming with Microsoft's FarmBeats solution, which aggregates and analyzes data from aerial and ground sensors using AI models running on Azure IoT Edge. The service can identify issues through visual imagery, making it possible for drone photography or images from industrial equipment to be analyzed on the edge for quick response to critical issues. And a new deep neural net processing architecture, dubbed Project Brainwave, is now available in preview on Azure and the edge, Microsoft said.

Microsoft's new mantra is "Intelligent Cloud and Intelligent Edge" which focuses on the emphasis of leveraging cloud computing for much of our needs now, but also with the emphasis on IoT powering the Intelligent Edge. This year, Microsoft's big coder conference was sandwiched between Facebook's annual F8 developer conference last week and Google's upcoming Google I/0 event, starting later this week. Microsoft is also expected to roll out the Redstone 5 release by the end of this year. We also heard that Microsoft's chatbot based in China, XiaoIce, had learned to speak like a natural speaker instead of a computer-assisted voice. Office 365 has been a monumental success for the company and they would like Microsoft 365 to follow that same path but the road ahead has many more bumps and fewer monetization options when compared to Office. The new Kinect won't be sold to consumers, but developers can sign on to receive a Kinect hardware kit that they can use to build their own tracking devices.

On stage at Build this morning, the company showed several of these new capabilities in a demonstration with DJI, Rockwell International and Qualcomm, flying a drone over pipes that seem identical from the outside, using imaging technology to identify damaged pipes, then creating a service ticket published to Dynamics 365. Companies can also publish custom apps to the Teams app store. There will also be a livestream available through dedicated Build 2018 website. Microsoft is developing a "Your Phone" experience which will allow you to access data on your phone from your PC, so you'll be able to access your text messages, or quickly drag a photo from your phone to your PC as well.

On Android, the Timeline feature will be integrated within the Microsoft Launcher app to support cross-device app launching.
