Pant ton powers Delhi to 187/5 against Hyderabad

Delhi Daredevils: Glenn Maxwell's form is a real concern for the hosts, but expect Delhi to give the Australian another go at the top after his unfortunate dismissal in the last game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's Kane Williamson in action.

Sunrisers Hyderabad overcame a century from Delhi Daredevils' Rishabh Pant to triumph by nine wickets and secure a place in the Indian Premier League play-offs.

Earlier Today, Delhi won the toss in Kotla and it made a decision to bat first on his home ground. The decision seemed to backfire as Jason Roy and Prithvi Shaw were dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan, which imparted pressure on them.

Earlier, though, it looked like SRH had a battle on its hands as Pant found the flawless stage to showcase himself.

Delhi made 187 for five, based around a brilliant unbeaten 128 by Rishabh Pant, the highest T20 score by an Indian, off only 63 balls including seven sixes.

In the DareDevils' innings, Pant was undoubtedly the hero, but not before he got two of his teammates run out. Alex Hales smashed a couple of boundaries, which kick-started the run-chase for the Sunrisers.

He was a man possessed after Harshal Patel walked back, failing to return in time after setting out for a second run. Both of them accomplished their half-centuries, which got the Sunrisers home with seven balls to spare. As for SRH, they have already beaten Delhi once in the campaign and will to do the double and enter the knock-outs in style. I just think it does sometimes (work), sometimes it doesn't. The wicket played well towards the end.

If Pant played a flamboyant innings, Dhawan and Williamson had a different approach.

Their partnership crossed 150 off 88 balls and they never really looked in any bother as Delhi ran bereft of ideas. Whether it's bowling in the power plays with the marginal comfort of only two fielders on the boundary line or controlling the momentum of opposition in the middle phase or executing a ideal death nail at the fag end of the innings, whenever Kane Williamson turned to him, he has delivered with utmost consistency.

"We wanted to go out and keep playing as a team".

Delhi's woes this season has been compounded by an inconsistent opening partnership, despite teenager Prithvi Shaw going great guns blazing at the top.

The match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST. You can also follow the match live blog for ball-by-ball updates, full score and IPL match highlight on cricketnext.com.
