Google will soon require OEMs to roll out 'regular' Android security patches

Android P beta's expansion outside Google's own hardware.

Google has released a production version of Android Things, a cut-down version of Android designed for IoT devices that has been in development for the past three years.

Who Gets the Android P Beta?

Android P getting a formal introduction at the IO 2018 was not something that was a secret. Some of the devices mentioned may come as a surprise for some, but that's the way it is for now. You should be testing out Android P in no time.

There are a lot of new options coming for developers soon or in the coming months. For instance, based on the subject of the email and the first half of the sentences, "Smart Compose" will predict text to fill in. The dashboard will break down per-app usage, notifications you've received, number of times you've unlocked your device.

For example, if type Uber in Google Search, you will see a small Uber preview of the price and time for a trip to your work or home below the normal Google search suggestions. The new side-scrolling multi-tasking tray pops up. But this one is a little bit advanced. A second swipe up will reveal all the apps on your phone.

Now you'll see an array of static app cards.

You can also drag the horizontal line that splits the apps to resize each pane.

As unveiled at the annual conference of Google, now its virtual assistant can make calls to plan appointments such as restaurant reservations.

Finally, if you're trying to spend less time on your phone, check out Google's new Do Not Disturb mode. The P brings tons of new features like Adaptive Battery, App Actions, Slices and Gesture Navigation and App Limit, among other things.

A good barrier for those who infinitely keep scrolling in the Instagram explore feed and also for Twitter addicts. Is the notch-design really going to be a game-changer for upcoming flagship devices? Simply press and hold the mic button and ask for information such as the weather forecast ("What's the weather this weekend?"), nearby local businesses, or check the score of the big game without disturbing the viewing experience. Half of the screen will feature the app you are now using, while the other will show a list of recently used apps.

The Android P Slice API gets you a widget like part of that app for quick access, for instance, if you search for Uber, then in the search results.

App Actions is a feature that will pop up suggested actions based on your usage history.

For a deeper insight into a story, the "Full Coverage" feature provides a complete picture of how that story is reported from a variety of sources. The settings panel now has more colorful icons for better distinction. It is already using a bunch of new and smart AI features.
