Deadly blast at LA-area medical building eyed as suspicious

Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes says the formal identification of the body is continuing Wednesday but authorities believe it is that of Ildiko Krajnyak (IL-di-koh KRY-nyak), a licensed cosmetologist.

The Orange County Fire Authority said the explosion occurred from inside the two-story building at 11 Mareblu Tuesday shortly after 1 p.m. All patients were evacuated and rescue service County orange.

Fire and sheriff's officials said the building appeared to be undergoing some type of renovation.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department stated in response to news reports: "Despite media reports quoting unnamed sources, we have not confirmed that the explosion is intentional, nor have we conclusively identified the source of the explosion".

Federal officials from the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Department of Homeland Security have been called out to assist local authorities.

No arrests have been made, nor have officials identified a suspect or suspects.

"We are going to take every precaution necessary before we enter that building", Bommarito said.

Authorities say one person is dead and three others have injuries after an explosion rocked a Southern California office building. One of the officials said one of those people was believed to be the target.

The officials said the explosion did not appear to be part of a broader plot and there was no immediate connection to any extremist groups.

Authorities on Wednesday said the deadly explosion that took place at a medical office building in Aliso Viejo the previous afternoon was intentional.

In the early morning hours Wednesday, FBI investigators began searching a home in Trabuco Canyon were Krajnyak was believed to have been living with her estranged husband.

Tuesday night, the L-A Times cited two law enforcement sources who said "the explosion was likely caused by a package that was delivered to the location, but cautioned that it would be speculative to say the blast was intentional".

"At this point, we do not believe this was an accident", said Paul Delacourt, special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Los Angeles.

The blast, which blew out almost the entire first floor, sent plumes of white smoke into the air and debris flying into the parking lot.

"We can not say exclusively this explosion was intentional", Sawyer said.

"And the ground shook", he told CNN.

Dong Shin said he had seen "fire, smoke, insulation popping out of the walls, a lot of scared people running around, a lot of commotion".
