Manchester United agree Fred deal

Manchester United have announced the signing of Brazil midfielder Fred from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Manchester United are moving ever closer to announcing the first transfer of the summer after reports emerged that Brazilian global, Fred has completed his medical.

United revealed the news in a brief statement on their official website, promising a further announcement "in due course".

In December 2015, he was given a one-year ban after testing positive for a banned diuretic, which was backdated to June that year when the test was carried out.

Now he knows he'll be playing in the Premier League next season, Fred will jet off to Russian Federation and join up with his Brazil teammates as they prepare for the 2018 World Cup.

He's also been dubbed "the new Fernandinho" which, if true, means United have a very talented player on their hands. He'll also be the third player to have played for both United and Internacional after Anderson, Possebon and Forlan. "He's a versatile midfielder, can play any position in the centre of the park, but his best role is as a box-to-box midfielder, because of his capacity to defend, create and finish".

Fred seemed to be one of the major targets for the side and signing him this quickly can only mean good things for the club.

The question remains, however, will Mourinho's big spending really make a dent on the gulf between the Red Devils and Man City next season?

The Brazilian is set to replace Michael Carrick who retired to join the United backroom staff at the end of last season.

Brazil legend Rivaldo has backed £52million Fred to be a success at Manchester United. Tite said on Sunday: "If I were a coach I would try to sign him too". The 25-year old can be used in a three-man midfield along with Pogba and Matic.
