Rob Whittaker's UFC middleweight title fight abandoned over 90 grams

UFC main event fights in pay-per-view events have been dropping like flies these past few months and UFC 225 is no different.

It was the second time in as many fights that "The Soldier of God" came in heavy for a world championship bout and in spite of the fact that he looked in considerable pain following his weight cut, the fight with Whittaker is going ahead.

After Yoel Romero missed weight for the second consecutive time in a title fight, Bisping sounded off.

A win in Chicago, even without the belt on the line, should remove any doubts about his credentials as the undisputed king of the division.

Whittaker, who claimed a unanimous decision over Romero last July, was asked earlier this week about the recent spate of missed weights among his UFC peers. Romero was granted two hours to see if he could lose that last pound but did not show up until 10 minutes before the cut-off point.

Illness forced him out of his first scheduled title defence in Perth in February - and Romero took his place, setting up the rematch with a devastating knockout win. However, that all changed once Romero missed weight. On Friday, he came in at 185.2 for his title fight with Robert Whittaker, forcing it to be a non-title fight affair.

As well, former WWE superstar CM Punk makes his first octagon appearance in nearly two years as he takes on fellow welterweight Mike Jackson as a plus-175 underdog, while Holly Holm vies for a second win in six fights as she takes on Megan Anderson as a minus-225 favourite in a clash of women's featherweights.

Chief among the issues was Saturday's UFC 225 main event. "I'm refueling and getting ready for a fight".

Gold Coast fighter Megan Anderson makes her debut against Holly Holm, a former champion best known for knocking out Ronda Rousey in Melbourne in 2015.
