Gregg Popovich reportedly met with Kawhi Leonard

Gregg Popovich and Kawhi Leonard met Tuesday, but it's not expected to lead to a long-term reconciliation, according to an ESPN report.

The new ESPN report says Leonard desires to be traded out of San Antonio, preferably to the Los Angeles Lakers after growing up in California and attending San Diego State.

Leonard - who played just nine games last season - was one of the top players in the National Basketball Association in 2016-17, where he averaged 25.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Leonard would prefer to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers over the Clippers, who also have interest in signing him.

Midway through last season, after rehabbing his injury, Leonard was cleared to play by the Spurs medical staff, but he insisted on a second opinion from his own doctors and ended up spending the all-star break consulting a specialist and rehabbing further. That's been communicated to those teams seeking trade talks, although the Spurs have encouraged some rival team executives calling about Leonard to present an offer if they so choose, league sources said.

Sources told the website that Popovich traveled to Southern California and met with Leonard before Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.

The star forward reportedly still believes San Antonio mishandled the quad injury that limited him to nine games this season and is "irate" over perceived public jabs against him by Popovich and teammate Tony Parker this season.

Leonard is eligible to sign a five-year, $219 million super max contract with the Spurs this summer. The team, however, hasn't given guidance on what they would want in any potential trade.
