Hey Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are mocking your cross-play ‘support’

Leaving those on the console unable to play with their friends who prefer being on PC, Xbox, mobile, or Switch. All home platforms (PS4, Xbox One, and Switch) had record-high sales for May compared to previous years. Skins aside, the Fortnite console bundle could potentially help Sony bounce back from some of the struggles it has experienced this week after it was revealed that the company will not be supporting cross-play on Nintendo Switch.

Sony has been at the center of an ongoing controversy, as the leading console maker has rejected cross-play compatibility for years. In the video, you can see a Switch player and an Xbox player gaming together in the wonderful world of Minecraft. The Nintendo Switch trailer for Minecraft doubles down on cross-play hard - throwing up a message of unity between the contrasting, branded colors of Xbox green and Nintendo red: Create together.

We got a reminder during E3 that the PS4, unlike most other platforms on Earth, does not support crossplay between consoles. If a copy of a game is subsequently uploaded online by pirates, then Nintendo is able to check the key contained within that copy, and permanently ban any Switch hardware running it. PlayStation 4 has been here for a long time and it has reached the point where Sony has chose to introduce a budget-priced version of various hit games.

These early collaborations between Microsoft and Nintendo could be the tip of a much larger strategic iceberg.

May's United States sales results see a strong software month and explainable hardware growth for the Switch. Microsoft's Xbox One has notched a disappointing 37.6 million sales. That's at the same time that Sony is locking players' accounts to the consoles, preventing them from using the same Epic Games account on Nintendo Switch. This is great news for Nintendo, which in the past has struggled enormously with pirated software.

As of this writing, Brad Moon did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
