Basketbrawl: punches, kicks and chairs thrown between Philippines and Australia

The game continued in a weird 5-on-3 setting, but ended with 1:57 left to play in the third quarter after both Fajardo and Norwood fouled out, leaving Amer as the last man standing.

The fight started towards the end of the third quarter, after Philippines guard Roger Ray Pogoy hit Australia's Chris Goulding with his elbow.

He added: "This is not the spirit in which sport should be played and certainly not in the spirit in which we aim to play basketball".

There were ridiculous scenes to behold though, as one team official from the Philippines even threw a chair towards a group of grappling players.

From the Philippines, Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Andray Blatche, Jayson Castro, Carl Cruz, R.R. Pogoy, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario and Matthew Wright were all ejected. "That's why it's call sports but at the time we're saying we empathize they have to act as a team which will not justify their conduct". The benches from both teams emptied onto the floor and Milwaukee Bucs player Thon Maker was caught in the middle.

According to the Australian Daily Telegraph, 13 players were ejected from the game.

However, Moore confirmed the Boomers may have unwittingly riled the hosts by tearing up advertising boards that players had slipped on the day before the game.

"You've all seen Nathan Sobey being assaulted by a fan, and we've got Chris Goulding on a pack of players and officials, thrown on the court". Eventually, the team's remaining players fouled out and ended the game by default.

That's when the game was stopped, resulting in an 89-53 victory for Australia.

Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled.

The Sudanese-born Australian took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to issue an apology, stating his actions were borne out of a desire to protect himself and his teammates.
