Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says one more signing will be fine

The organiser of the International Champions Cup says he understands Jose Mourinho's criticism of the pre-season competition.

With Darmian set to leave the club, United could be without a right-back when they take on Leicester City in their first game of the new Premier League season, as Antonio Valencia and newcomer Diogo Dalot are both injured.

With Man City running away with the league last season and Liverpool strengthening considerably over the summer, challenging for the title will be hard, as will playing a style of football that will entertain the fans after 2017/18's dour displays.

However, with Mourinho still preferring to live in the luxurious Lowry Hotel - where a suite costs over £800 a night - than buy a more permanent home, and now that his trusted number two Rui Faria, seen as a reliable sounding board as to his mood swings, is no longer at United, many are suggesting the third season curse could prevail again.

"Do you want me to be very happy with the players [Alexis Sanchez] has around him?" he asked reporters.

Jose Mourinho wants two more signings before the transfer deadline - but is only confident of getting one.

"We basically have the same players".

"We're not playing here to improve the team or the dynamic, we're playing here to just survive and have some not very ugly results".

The 29-year-old made just 13 Premier League starts for Tottenham last term, but as of yet Manchester United have fallen short of Tottenham's valuation of the player (the Mirror), with Spurs' owner Daniel Levy holding out for a larger fee (as he does).

United look in disarray less than two weeks before the start of the English Premier League campaign, with Mourinho also painting a gloomy picture of their recruitment process, a source of tension that will not be easy to resolve, given there are only 11 days left in this transfer window and Leicester City are determined not to sell United's top transfer target, centre-back Harry Maguire.

"We start the game with nearly half the players who are not even going to belong to our squad on August 9 [transfer deadline day]".

Already deprived of more than half of his first-choice starting XI because of World Cup commitments, injuries have now decimated his squad and Mourinho is anxious as he moves towards the start of the serious business of a new domestic campaign. "I think that it's possible I will have one".
