Child dies after being thrown into Hillsborough River; mother charged

A mom was charged with murder Thursday for throwing her 4-year-old daughter into a Florida river, reports said.

By 4 p.m., witnesses spotted the vehicle - which still had a bright green price tag across the windshield - parked near the Hillsborough River not far from the Columbus Drive bridge, and saw Denson pull Je'Hyrah from the auto.

That girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials didn't immediately identify the woman or the girl.

Denson was taken into custody walking not far from where the child was allegedly dumped in the river.

In a press conference Friday, Chief of Police Brian Dugan called the incident tragic and unbelievable while giving an update on the investigation. "It's a insane world we live in", Dugan said. Witnesses say the mother grabbed Je'Hyrah by both arms and pulled her close to her chest as she waded deeper into the water.

Police allege Denson, 26, had just stolen a Nissan Altima from an auto fix shop.

Denson had recently sought help for her daughter who she said was on the autism spectrum.

Some witnesses said they could see the girl's hands above the water - then they disappeared.

Police responded to the bridge on West Columbus Drive around 4 p.m. on Thursday after witnesses reported seeing a woman throw a child into the river. They said Denson then walked out of the water and away from the river.

According to FOX13, police have charged Denson with first-degree murder.

Police say she fell over 60 feet into Tampa Bay, where a marine rescue crew discovered her body a short time later. Witnesses were shaken up, the police chief said. "I don't know the circumstances, I don't know what's happening in their lives, but it's killing me".

"Our hearts hurt for the loss of Je'Hyrah Daniels".
