Donald Trump pays tribute to Aretha Franklin

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has died at the age of 76, her publicist has confirmed. "We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family", a family statement read. "The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds", Franklin's family said.

Funeral arrangements would be announced in the coming days, the family added, thanking fans around the world for their "incredible outpouring of love" since it first emerged earlier this week that she was gravely ill. "There were times that we were asked to go to the back of the restaurant - say - or we couldn't use the bathrooms".

Her final performance was at an Elton John AIDS Foundation gala in New York City in November 2017.

Franklin's music also helped serve as a springboard for a number of young guitarists who later became legends themselves.

She won 18 Grammys and had 25 gold records in her decade-long career that started when she was just 14 years old. Her 1985 album "Who's Zoomin' Who" received some of her best reviews and included such hits as the title track and "Freeway of Love".

The music legend began her career as a child, singing gospel at a church in her home state of MI. And while Fox News attempted to pay homage to the legendary singer, they somehow found a way to drop the ball. "She found success in 1967 when she signed with Atlanta Records and released songs like "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Think".

Her health appeared to have improved for a period of time, though, and in 2015 she sang for the pope, gave an acclaimed performance at the Kennedy Center Honors and one year after that performed the national anthem at the annual Lions Thanksgiving Day game.

A vast array of entertainers and public figures across the globe have paid homage to Aretha Franklin after the artist, widely known as the Queen of Soul, succumbed to advanced pancreatic cancer.

"He provided the vehicle to allow me to perform and express myself", Franklin told The Wall Street Journal following Wexler's death in 2008.

"Her commitment to civil rights made an indelible impact on the world", Streisand wrote.

Tributes to the "Queen of Soul" have flowed in from entertainment figures.

Music lovers said she'll never be forgotten.

"I'll be pretty much satisfied, but I'm not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing".

Her legacy will live on through her music and in part in the next generation of Detroit soul singersfollowing in her footsteps.
