Juror: One Holdout Stymied Manafort Conviction

After deliberating for several days, however, the jury of six men and six women told the judge that they had failed to reach a decision on 10 of the 18 criminal counts Manafort faces in the first trial stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the role of Russian Federation in the 2016 US election.

Judge Ellis expressed his skepticism throughout the first trial and was often antagonistic to prosecutors; it was obvious that Ellis didn't think the trial should have occurred in the first place.

In the jury room, "One of us had a problem with accepting his testimony because he took the plea and so we agreed to throw out his testimony and look at the paperwork, which his name was all over", Duncan said.

The maximum time in prison for the counts Manafort was found guilty of totals 80 years, though he would be expected to receive much less when sentenced.

"A large number of counts, ten, could not even be decided in the Paul Manafort case", Trump said, adding: "Witch Hunt".

"He mentioned pardoning Manafort", Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt told political pundit Sean Hannity Wednesday, previewing the broadcast of her interview with Trump. Trump's first national security adviser pleaded guilty in December to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "But in the end she held out and that's why we have 10 counts that did not get a verdict", Duncan said.

Duncan said she was speaking out to inform the public and that she was not concerned about her safety.

Manafort was convicted on eight counts of financial crimes on Tuesday.

In a Fox News interview on Wednesday, Paula Duncan, a self-described Trump supporter, said the unidentified juror was not convinced that Manafort was guilty of all 18 criminal charges he faced.

"Had the verdict gone any other way, I might have been", Duncan said.

The jury found Manafort guilty on eight counts, including bank fraud, tax fraud, and failure to disclose a foreign account.

Prosecutors say Manafort avoided paying more than $16m in taxes over several years.

Trump's lawyers counseled the president against the idea of pardoning anyone linked to the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, according to Giuliani, saying Trump should at least wait until special counsel Robert Mueller III has concluded his probe.

"To date, all of the charges against Cohen and Manafort are federal offenses but that does not preclude state authorities from bringing subsequent charges to the extent the wrongdoing constitutes a crime under state law", Griffin said.

Harry Litman, a former U.S. Attorney and deputy assistant attorney general, told the magazine that Trump's conduct could be considered illegal if his intent was corrupt.

Giuliani said Trump was seeking advice in the wake of a spate of pardons he granted earlier this summer, including for a woman whom Kim Kardashian had lobbied the White House to release. "And I said, 'We're not doing this, ' " the juror said.

Other Trump associates who have pleaded guilty as part of Mueller's investigation include former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos and Gates.

"Finding Mr. Manafort guilty was hard for me". That would influence my decision or the prosecutor's decision as to whether to retry him.
