Gordon isn’t the only tropical storm in the Atlantic. Here’s what’s brewing

8 P.M. UPDATE: Tropical Storm Gordon has intensified and now packs winds of 60 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said in its 8 p.m. advisory Monday.

By evening, the storm was headed west-northwest at 17 miles per hour into the Gulf of Mexico and had maximum winds of 60 miles per hour.

The storm was expected to strengthen over the Gulf of Mexico, and reach the central Gulf Coast states of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana late on Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said.

The storm was bringing heavy rain and some gusty winds to many areas in South Florida Monday morning.

Tropical Storm Florence is also looming in the open waters of the Atlantic and shouldn't pose a threat as it meanders over the open waters.

Sustained winds this morning at Palm Beach International Airport have been running about 9 to 20 mph, with a 21 mph gust recorded before 2 a.m. Miami International Airport reported gusts of up to 35 mph before 9 a.m.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Isolated tropical funnels and waterspouts may form near shore in association with any feeder band showers and storms. There is also a high risk of rip currents at area beaches on both coasts through Tuesday from Tropical Storm Gordon.

As Tropical Storm Gordon makes a beeline toward the central Gulf coast, hurricane development isn't out of the question.

"Gordon is moving quickly along and is expected to make a second landfall, perhaps as a hurricane, along the corridor from Louisiana to MS during late Tuesday or Tuesday night", reports Accuweather.

A hurricane watch is in place for the MS and Alabama as Gordon moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

A flash flood watch is in place in the heartland, where storms are moving through Kansas, Iowa and northern IL.

Tropical Storm Gordon is forecast to make landfall Tuesday night somewhere between eastern Louisiana and southern Alabama as a formidable tropical storm.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for waters offshore of Apalachicola west to Walton/Okaloosa Counties. It is likely that a Tropical Storm Watch will go in effect for the Northern Gulf of Mexico soon. Cruise Hive will monitor the growing Tropical Storm and will post updates which impact the cruise industry including ship itineraries and ports.
