Hurricane Florence Dumps 'Epic Amounts of Rainfall' On US States

A downed tree rests on a house during the passing of Hurricane Florence in the town of Wilson, North Carolina, on September 14, 2018.

The hurricane center also says a few tornadoes are possible Sunday across North Carolina and eastern SC.

The death toll from the hurricane-turned-tropical storm climbed to eight.

Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina as a Category 1 storm and flooding from the heavy rain is forcing hundreds of people to call for emergency rescues in the area around New Bern, North Carolina, which sits at the confluence of the Nueces and Trent rivers.

Cooper said others should not follow suit. At 5pm the Guardian watched as water from the park crept closer to the Martin Luther King Jr Drive thoroughfare by 15ft in the space of just 10 minutes. "Roads are closed in many places and more are closing even as we speak".

The dead included a mother and baby killed by a falling tree in Wilmington.

Two other men were killed in Lenoir County, North Carolina - electrocuted in separate incidents, according to CNN.

Strong winds have got nothing on this tough guy. The man's family found his body Friday morning, according to Dail. In Pender County, a woman died of a heart attack after paramedics trying to reach her were blocked by debris.

After blowing ashore as a hurricane with 90 miles per hour winds, Florence virtually parked itself much of the weekend atop the Carolinas as it pulled warm water from the ocean and hurled it onshore.

Christy Hall, South Carolina's state secretary of transportation, on Saturday announced plans to build two emergency dams as rainfall is expected to flood routes leading into Horry County, where Myrtle Beach is located. Though the popular North Carolina tourist destination seems to have been spared the worst of Florence's wrath, the islands still have some of the fastest rates of sea level rise in the world, almost an inch a year. Harvey dropped 60.58 inches of rain previous year in Texas, setting the state's new record.

Parts of southern North Carolina and northeastern SC could see another foot or more of rain over the weekend, according to National Weather Service. Additional rainfall could affect those areas of the county more prone to flood, the county government said.

Radar is estimating that some areas between Wilmington and New Bern, North Carolina, have received over 30 inches of rain.
