Browns close to trading Josh Gordon to Patriots

Instead, there was sufficient interest from other National Football League teams for them to negotiate trade parameters. In exchange for Gordon, the team received a conditional 2019 fifth-round draft pick, a source informed of the deal told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

After initially saying they would cut Gordon on Monday, the Browns made a decision to take advantage of the market and find a trade partner.

As part of the condition, the 27-year-old Gordon reportedly must appear in at least 10 of New England's 14 remaining games. After finishing the 2017 season healthy, Gordon missed 2018's training camp to ensure his health and wellness, and the Browns again supported Gordon, welcoming him back in the final two weeks of the preseason.

If he doesn't work out, they get a pick back, which should not be much later than the one they gave up.

Gordon played in the Browns' season opener against Pittsburgh, but he reported to the team on Saturday with a unexplained hamstring injury after practicing all week.

If Gordon lands in New England and can stay on the field - and that's a big "if" - he could be an instant threat for the Patriots.

In 2013, Gordon, a former second-round pick, had 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, despite playing with quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden.

According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, Gordon has yet to go through a physical with the Patriots, so perhaps, this is what Belichick is waiting for.

In those five games, Gordon turned 18 catches into 335 yards and one touchdown.
