White House is Planning an Attack on Kavanaugh Accuser, Christine Blasey Ford

She told The Post there were four boys at the party but only two in the room. She says she tried to scream, but that Kavanaugh put his hand over her mouth to silence her.

Ford's decision to go public prompted some key senators to voice support for a delay in Kavanaugh's nomination process, which is scheduled to be voted on in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week.

Democrats are desperate to block Kavanaugh's appointment because they believe he could help overturn Roe vs Wade, the landmark ruling that protects legal access to abortion, as well as protections for racial minorities, unions and the environment.

In careful remarks at the White House in which he did not offer his view on the actual allegation against his nominee, Trump called for the Senate to go through a "full process" and accepted a small delay in the process, though warned that "it shouldn't certainly be very much".

Kavanaugh, who was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump, was spotted at the White House on Monday.

Kavanaugh, 53, "categorically and unequivocally" denied the allegations when they came out anonymously last week.

On Friday, 65 women came forward to defend Kavanaugh's character in a letter sent to the Judiciary Committee.

Asked by host Savannah Guthrie whether Ford considered it an attempted rape, she said she did.

Grassley was scrambling Sunday to schedule staff telephone calls with both Kavanaugh and Ford, which he called "the standard procedure".

"Well, this woman should not be insulted and she should not be ignored", said Conway.

Now a judge on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, widely viewed as the nation's second most powerful court, Kavanaugh seemed to be on a smooth confirmation track until the new allegation emerged. "They should be examined thoroughly and fairly by the Judiciary Committee without any artificial timeline", said McCaskill, who has spent years advocating for legislation to combat sexual assault on college campuses, in the military and at government agencies.

Her attorney, Debra Katz, told CNN on Monday morning that Ford would be willing to testify before Congress and stood by her story in the face of expected push-back.

She also denied that Dr Ford, a Democrat, is politically motivated.

A Judiciary committee statement Sunday accused Democrats of hiding Ford's allegations until the eve of the vote.

The most important of those voices was Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, who said Christine Blasey Ford, a California college professor, deserves to be heard after coming forward publicly with the allegation over the weekend. On Monday, Kavanaugh again reiterated his denial of the allegations.

The White House said that the FBI has repeatedly investigated Mr Kavanaugh since the 1990s for highly sensitive positions he has held, including in the office of independent counsel Ken Starr, at the White House and his current post on the federal appeals court in Washington.

"We are not going to allow a last-minute smear campaign destroy a good and decent man who has an unblemished personal record", the spokeswoman said.

Ford said she escaped when Kavanaugh's friend jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling.

The White House said it is sticking by Kavanaugh's nomination to fill a vacancy on the court, the country's highest.

Democrats, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY, called for a delay in the vote, and two committee Republicans - all 11 on the GOP side are men - Sens.

The existence of the letter and some details of its contents became public in recent days, however.Ford did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters for comment. Their fellow committee member Rhode Island Democratic Sen.
