Brett Kavanaugh denies sexual assault allegations, will testify to "defend my integrity"

The image references college professor Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh assaulted her when they were teenagers.

The White House counselor, Kellyanne Conway. She is willing to tell her story publicly, her lawyer, Debra Katz, said Monday on NBC's "Today" show.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein said in a statement Monday afternoon that the Federal Bureau of Investigation should handle the matter, not Judiciary Committee staff. Like Kavanaugh, Thomas denied he had acted inappropriately.

Ford told the Post that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed at a Maryland party in the early 1980s, clumsily tried to remove her clothing and put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

At least one, though, hadn't spent time or talked one-on-one with him but still felt comfortable attaching her name based on the social situations they shared. He would have been around 17.

The committee has been scheduled to vote Thursday on the nomination with a vote by the full Senate soon after and, Republicans hope, Kavanaugh taking his place on the court for its new term on October 1. Critics have already accused the GOP of fast-tracking the process to get Kavanaugh on the court by October 1, the first day of the fall term.

After Kavanaugh's friend jumped on top of both of them, Ford managed to break away and get out of the room, eventually running away from the house, according to the Post report. In both cases, the allegations became public only after the nominees went through their initial confirmation hearings. If the vote comes down to a tie, Vice President Mike Pence would vote to break the deadlock.

If the Judiciary committee's timetable slips further, it would become increasingly hard for Republicans to schedule a vote before the November 6 elections, in which congressional control will be at stake. "We need to delay the vote", Leahy said.

Kavanaugh was spotted entering the White House Monday after both he and Ford said they are willing to answer questions publicly about the allegations. Both Collins and Murkowski are considered potential swing votes on Kavanaugh's nomination.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other GOP leaders complained that the allegation was made public just days before the committee was set to vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation.

"If it takes a little delay it'll take a little delay", Mr. Trump said - though he added it "shouldn't be much delay".

To be clear, it is quite possible that if/when Ford testifies (which I predict will be bad for Republicans regardless of what the truth here is) that we will learn that none of these concerns are valid.

At the White House, Trump said he's open to a delay in order to keep the process going and eventually confirm Kavanaugh.

Trump is praising Kavanaugh as one of the finest people he's known.

If either President Trump or Kavanaugh himself were to withdraw his nomination, it is unlikely that a new nominee would be confirmed prior to this November's midterm elections.

"She should not be insulted". She should not be ignored. Ford told the Post that she did not tell anyone, including her husband, about the incident until 2012. Conway said that decision was up to the Judiciary Committee. And he's embracing his role as a popular emissary for his father, crisscrossing the country on campaign trips, penning op-eds in support of favored candidates and downplaying talk of his own legal exposure stemming from his involvement in a 2016 Trump Tower meeting that's a focus of Mueller's probe into possible links between the president's election campaign and Russian Federation. "This woman will be heard".

A committee spokesman said late Sunday that its chairman, Sen.

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson and Democratic Sen.

Another senior Republican on the Judiciary panel, Sen. Hatch told CNN: "Somebody's mixed up". The development offered some respite to several vulnerable Democrats who are facing re-election in Republican-leaning states and who had avoided taking a firm position on Kavanaugh's nomination.

Evenly balanced for years, the court is expected to tilt decidedly conservative if Kavanaugh is approved, potentially threatening women's access to abortion, restrictions on presidential powers, and efforts to curb gun ownership.

A record number of women, a lot of them Democrats, will be on the nation's ballots in the November 6 congressional elections. In the Senate, the Democrats would have to gain two seats.
