Man Utd: Jose Mourinho says Paul Pogba will not captain club again

Paul Pogba, David De Gea, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Victor Lindelof were not seen getting off the team bus, suggesting they may be rested for tonight's game.

Mourinho has attempted to underline his authority after an error by Pogba led to Wolves' equaliser at Old Trafford on Saturday and the player's subsequent comments criticising United's tactics.

Pogba then had an apparently exasperated discussion with the manager in a clip viewed four million times in little more than three hours on one of the channel's Twitter posts.

Press Association Sport understands the access was part of a pre-arranged open session that formed part of its broadcasting agreement, but what had been expected to be a tame recovery session instead raised fresh concerns over the pair's relationship.

The Red Devils' £89m record signing is set to leave Old Trafford in January.

It is claimed that Pogba is determined to force his way out of United with Barcelona his destination of choice having been linked with the La Liga heavyweights towards the end of the summer transfer window. But he's not really a captain, is he, Pogba, in terms of how he plays?

Woodward backed Mourinho over his decision to strip Pogba of his "second captain" status and is still supportive of his approach with the £89m man after Wednesday's drama.

"The same person who takes the decision to make him second captain makes this decision now".

"I am very content I am not playing anymore. It's just one decision which I don't have to explain".

That may seem a relatively simple solution but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is reportedly desperate not to lose the biggest global star at the club.

The United boss confronted the Frenchman at United's training ground.

Pogba was slammed by his manager during training and told he would never wear the captain's armband again, as he did not have the right temperament for the job.

The France World Cup victor has previously been criticised for undermining Mourinho's tactics, calling for his side to "attack, attack, attack" following their 1-1 Premier League draw against Wolves last weekend.
