Suns could target point guard in potential 3-team deal involving Butler

Tom Thibodeau, the Wolves president of basketball operations and head coach, has said publicly that he is working on dealing Butler but will only do what's best for his team.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau met with Butler in Minneapolis following Butler's physical on Monday, but overtures meant to coax Butler back to the team were rebuffed, according to multiple reports.

Despite Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor's reported insistence that the team trade disgruntled star Jimmy Butler, the asking price is said to be too high.

The Houston Rockets are reportedly making a push to add Jimmy Butler.

It's unclear what, exactly, the Rockets would offer for Butler. Butler has yet to attend a Timberwolves workout and wants to sit out until the franchise executes a trade for him.

The Timberwolves will receive Sexton, the Cavs' conditional first-round pick and Sacramento Kings shooting guard Iman Shumpert while the Kings take on shooting guard J.R. Smith in exchange for two second-round picks.

If the Rockets were to land Butler, there would nearly certainly need to be a third team to absorb the salary of Gorgui Dieng.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Timberwolves are asking for proven veterans, future assets, cap space and prospects.

Miami remains an attractive destination, with Josh Richardson, Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk, and Hassan Whiteside all players that could potentially come back to Minnesota.

Other teams have expressed interest in Butler, including the Clippers, Rockets, Cavaliers, Nets, Wizards and Mavericks, per Wojnarowski.

One wild card that some folks in the media seem to suggest we should keep an eye on is the Washington Wizards. Not just because Butler prefers to be traded to the Miami Heat, per The New York Times' Marc Stein. I understand that with being in the league for so many years, but got to try to just see what we can do.
