White House denies ‘micromanaging’ Kavanaugh probe

On Thursday, Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

During the Senate hearing on Friday, Flake huddled with Coons and other Democrats on the panel to enlist support for a bipartisan effort to call for a one week delay so the FBI could investigate the claims made by a number of women against Kavanaugh.

Additionally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will not be permitted to "examine why Kavanaugh's account of his drinking at Yale University differs from those of some former classmates" or ask the supermarket that employed Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge "for records verifying when he was employed there"-a line of inquiry that could help bolster Ford's account".

Sanders said on "Fox News Sunday" that the White House is "not micromanaging this process" but also said an open-ended probe into Swetnick's claims and whether Kavanaugh may have misled lawmakers in his Senate Judiciary Committee testimony would not be acceptable.

"The White House should not be allowed to micromanage a FBI investigation", Klobuchar said on CNN.

While the precise scope of the reopened background investigation of Kavanaugh remained unclear, Trump told reporters Saturday that "the FBI, as you know, is all over talking to everybody" and said "this could be a blessing in disguise".

The FBI has been given a list of four witnesses to interview as part of a background check into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, The New York Times reported.

The FBI will question Deborah Ramirez, who said Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party when both were students at Yale University.

In what has become the year of the woman in national politics, there are no easy answers for a party aligned with a president who has dismissed more than a dozen allegations of sexual misconduct of his own.

Female voices have echoed throughout the U.S. Senate this week demanding male senators justify their support for Brett Kavanaugh's U.S. Supreme Court nomination despite an allegation of high school sexual assault.

Christine Blasey Ford testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee

On Monday, I was with the organization that I co-lead, the Center for Popular Democracy Action, and hundreds of people from across the country who came to D.C.to urge their senators to vote no on the Kavanaugh nomination.

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a member of the Judiciary Committee, said the parameters of the probe are based on the wishes of three wavering colleagues - Sens.

Don McGahn is the current White House counsel, and a friend of Kavanaugh. Two others said by Ford to have been present for the party have also said they do not recall it.

Trump says in a statement that the updated investigation, which comes in response to sexual misconduct allegations, "must be limited in scope" and "completed in less than one week". Republicans say reopening the FBI investigation is unnecessary because committee members have had the opportunity to question both Kavanaugh and Ford and other potential witnesses have submitted sworn statements.

"If truth were the only goal, there would be no clock, and the investigation wouldn't have been sought after the Senate Judiciary Committee already endorsed the nominee", he said.

Lawyers for PJ Smyth and Leland Ingham Keyser, two others who Ford said were in the house when she was attacked, have said their clients are willing to cooperate "fully" with the FBI's investigation.

Horn, a lifelong Republican and frequent Trump critic, described Ford as "the most credible person I have ever seen publicly talk about this". I haven't met her.

"Ford is political collateral, and they do not care", Mace said.

Jeff Flake was roundly booed after he lamely joked about the elevator tongue lashing he got from a distraught woman who said she was a victim of sexual assault. "You're telling me that my assault doesn't matter, that what happened to me doesn't matter, that you're going to let people who do these things into power".

"I was really struck that I thought his anger got the best of him". It compiles information about the nominee's past and provides its findings to the White House, which passes them along to the committee.
