Kuldeep five-for gives India record Test win against West Indies

India now have a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series against the Windies.

Earlier, Ashwin produced a brilliant spell as India enforced the follow-on against the West Indies.

The West Indies batsmen struggled to play the youngster in the second innings and Kuldeep returned with figures of 5/57 in the second innings.

India's previous largest winning margin by an innings was against Test debutants Afghanistan in Bangalore in June, when Virat Kohli's side won by an innings and 262 runs. They did not fare any better in the second innings, crumbling to 196 all out in 50.5 overs in the final session.

"We can not compare this with series [defeat] in England. We can see how well the Indians played, they are accustomed to conditions but there's experience and things we can learn from".

Kohli got to his hundred in his 123rd innings with a boundary off leg-spinner Bishoo. Umesh Yadav set the West Indian up nicely before getting rid of him with a perfectly placed bouncer as he mistimed a pull to be caught at midwicket.

The visitors unraveled quickly as Ashwin (4-37) ran through the tail. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were the other centurions.

At lunch, West Indies was 33-1. "Maybe it was their strategy against the spinners but it clearly didn't work this time", he said. There was one [two - 47-run stand between Kieran Powell and Shai Hope, and Powell and Roston Chase's 41]. Yadav then took over. It became a quick triple blow when Sunil Ambris was stumped for a three-ball duck.

Jadeja and Ashwin struck late in the session to remove Paul (15) and Devendra Bishoo (9) respectively. Lokesh Rahul missed the party as he was sent back for a duck by Gabriel while Ajinkya Rahane put up a good partnership with Kohli in taking India's innings ahead.

"We did talk about being positive in our team meetings".

The match will be best remembered for the emergence of Prithvi Shaw, who announced his arrival in global cricket with a classy hundred on debut, becoming the youngest from the country to do so in Tests. After Bhuvneshwar Kumar he is the second Indian to achieve the feat. Can't imagine my debut like this. The game was held at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, which offered a pitch tailor-made for India's run-hungry batsmen.

India will now be looking to wrap up a 2-0 series win when the second Test gets underway in Hyderabad on Friday - the sides will then contest five one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals.
