Trump says he has no plans to fire Rosenstein

President Donald Trump was in Orlando Monday to attend the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference.

"That'll be very nice", Trump told reporters outside the White House today.

The President visited Orlando after his second Supreme Court Nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in over the weekend.

After the flight, Trump described his conversation with Rosenstein to reporters as "great".

"We have two years back-to-back with significant declines, but not to the level I want to see as mayor or Superintendent [Eddie] Johnson wants to see", he said.

President Donald Trump drew an enthusiastic response from a law-and-order crowd Monday, advocating the use of "stop and frisk" policing and saying he has directed the Justice Department to work with local officials in Chicago to stem violence in the nation's third-largest city. It is not unusual for senior Justice Department officials to join Trump at such events. He met in person with White House chief of staff John Kelly and spoke by phone with Trump during a tumultuous day that ended with him still in his job.

"I didn't know Rod before, but I got to know him and I get along very well with him", Trump said.

Should Democrats take the House in November's midterm elections, such talk from a senior Democratic leader could spawn impeachment proceedings.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police is the world's largest professional association for police leaders.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's work been overseen by Rosenstein since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation. Russian Federation denies interfering and Trump says there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

Trying to appease conservative House Republicans who have threatened Rosenstein with impeachment proceedings, the deputy AG has agreed to talk to them in a private session.

Trump was also asked about musician Taylor Swift, who expressed her desire over the weekend to vote for Democrat Phil Bredesen over Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in Tennessee's Senate race.

"Rudy Giuliani, when he was mayor of New York City, had a very strong program of stop and frisk, and it went from an unacceptably risky city to one of the safest city in the country and I think the safest big city in the country, so it works", the president said.

The use of "stop-and-frisk" has since been dramatically reduced in NY, with fewer than 11,000 stops reported in 2017 compared to more than 680,000 in 2011.
