Israelis killed in West Bank shooting

BARKAN INDUSTRIAL ZONE, Palestinian Territories - A Palestinian shot dead two Israelis and wounded another at an Israeli settlement's industrial zone in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, Israeli authorities said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of yesterday's Cabinet meeting: "This was a very severe terrorist attack in which two Israelis were brutally murdered and a citizen was also wounded".

The Israeli air force attacked militants in the Gaza strip, which was launched flaming balls at Israel.

The industrial zone is located next to Israeli settlement Barkan and near the settlement of Ariel in the north of the occupied West Bank.

A military statement released Sunday evening named the suspect as Ashraf Naalwa, from the northern West Bank village of Shuweika, and said that the army and the Shin Bet security service were hunting him.

Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians work side by side in the industrial zone, which includes some 160 factories.

Israeli forces detained rights activist Hasan Karajeh after raiding his home in Safa, West Bank.

Every Friday, Palestinians across the West Bank stage rallies to protest Israel's longstanding policy of building Jewish settlements on confiscated Palestinian land.

"According to Palestinian sources, neither the brother, arrested Sunday, nor the sister have any information related to the attack, but the arrests serve to pressure the assailant to reveal himself", Israeli media reported.

Israeli media said the shooter was a former worker at the factory before he was sacked recently.

Last month, a Palestinian teenager stabbed to death the US-born settler Ari Fuld, a well-known pro-Israel advocate, at a shopping centre in Gush Etzion. The settlements are considered illegal under global law, though Israel disputes this.

Bennett was then asked if he would also instruct the Israeli army to adopt a shoot to kill policy against Palestinian children, to which he replied: "They are not children - they are terrorists".
