Major Ben Halel, an officer in the Paratroopers Brigade who commanded the troops during the incident, said the Palestinian was armed with a knife and tried to attack a soldier, who opened fire at close range and killed him.

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories: A Palestinian woman died of her wounds after Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank threw stones at the auto she was travelling in, Palestinian security sources and media said Saturday (Oct 13).

Since March, Hamas has orchestrated near-weekly protests along the security fence dividing Gaza and Israel, pressing for an end to a stifling Israel-Egyptian blockade imposed since the militant group wrested control of Gaza in 2007.

A 21-year-old Palestinian died late Friday from the wounds sustained from Israeli gunshots, bringing to seven the death toll of Palestinians killed during violent clashes near the Israel-Gaza borders.

After the murder of Israeli activist Ari Fuld who was stabbed in the back by a Palestinian terrorist two weeks ago there has been a significant uptick in terrorist activity in Judea and Samaria.

In the most serious incident, in the south of the Strip, the IDF said several Gazans planted a bomb by the fence.

A Palestinian assailant armed with a knife attacked the soldier, 32, outside of the Shomron Regional Brigade headquarters in the northern West Bank, near the settlement of Itamar.

In recent months, the P.A. has limited the number of resources it provides to the region, and blasted Qatar for providing $450,000 in fuel to Gaza this week, accusing Qatar of harming Palestinian unity.

Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said on Twitter an "organised attack" had involved around 20 Palestinians crossing the border after an explosive device destroyed a portion of the fence.

On Friday, Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced suspending fuel delivery to Gaza in response to the protests, Haaretz reported.

Thousands of Palestinians marched on Friday after convening at five locations along the fence, with Israeli troops responding from across the barrier with tear gas and gunfire.

One Israeli soldier has been killed since the protests began.

They added that Hamas leader Ismail Haniya also attended the protests east of Gaza City and hailed the ongoing demonstrations.
