Newspaper publishers, editors demand Saudi Arabia provide answers on Khashoggis' death

An image made from surveillance camera footage shows a man identified by Turkish officials as Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb walking toward the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul before writer Jamal Khashoggi disappeared on October 2, 2018.

Her spokesman Steffen Seibert said Monday the government was still discussing internally whether ot not to bloc exports already authorised in recent months but not yet delivered.

Videos have emerged of a Saudi suspected of being behind Jamal Khashoggi's murder walking around Istanbul in the journalist's clothes shortly after he was last seen.

The kingdom has repeatedly blamed rogue agents inside the consulate and sought to deny accusations that Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman was involved in the death.

The Istanbul governor's office has put Hatice Cengiz, a Turkish national, under 24-hour police protection, Anadolu said. The kingdom's claim on Saturday that Khashoggi died in a "fistfight" met global skepticism and allegations of a cover-up to absolve the 33-year-old crown prince of direct responsibility.

"We are determined to find out all the facts and we are determined to punish those who are responsible for this murder", he said.

The official said Saudi statements had changed because of "false information reported internally at the time".

Not only did they ostensibly bring in a body double, but according to this report, it appears they also dressed him in Khashoggi's very clothes in an attempt to mislead those looking into his disappearance.

The images, which were published by CNN on Monday, show the decoy leaving the Saudi consulate in Istanbul by the back door, wearing Mr Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard, and glasses, in the hours after he was killed. Saudi Arabia said 18 Saudis were arrested and that several top intelligence officials were fired.

"The threatening, attacking or killing of journalists, under any circumstances, is unacceptable and of utmost concern to our three nations". Salah expressed his honest thanks to the prince for his condolences, according to the SPA.

Leading U.S. Senate Republican Bob Corker said Saturday on CNN's "State of the Union" that the Saudi's explanation lacked credibility.

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and the World Editors Forum (WEF) issued the call for action in a statement on Friday, shortly after Saudi State Television confirmed that Mr. Khashoggi died after an altercation inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

He also urged Turkey to turn over purported audio recordings of Khashoggi's killing inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

Falih said Saudi Arabia would soon raise output to 11 million barrels per day (bpd) from the current 10.7 million.

He has twice held telephone talks with King Salman on the crisis, with some analysts arguing Erdogan was seeking to preserve Turkish-Saudi relations through the ageing monarch while sidelining his headstrong son Prince Mohammed.

He reiterated Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement from Sunday, saying Berlin "at this stage will not approve further arms exports because we want to know what happened", adding that "all explanations so far have been unsatisfactory".

Speaking late Saturday Trump said he needs to learn more about the killing and will be working with Congress on the USA response.
