Erdogan, Trump agree on need to clarify death of Saudi journalist - USA

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin addressed the Khashoggi investigationin a meeting Monday with the Saudi Crown Prince, according to a tweet from Treasury spokesperson Tony Sayegh. He stressed that "it's not a decision against the kingdom or its people".

The Trump administration notably refused to endorse the establishment of a Palestinian state, distancing itself from the two-state solution favoured by the global community for more than two decades. Support for that strand of the account appeared to come from footage aired by CNN showing a man dressed as Khashoggi walking around Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Turkish crime-scene investigators swarmed a garage Monday night in Istanbul where a Saudi consular vehicle had been parked. President Donald Trump, responding to the news, said he would work with Congress to develop a response to Khashoggi's death, but said that he didn't want sanctions to affect United States arms sales to the kingdom.

Reuters reported on Sunday it had spoken to a Saudi official who said Mr Khashoggi had died in a chokehold after resisting attempts to return him to Saudi Arabia.

Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan has said his government will reveal the naked truth behind the killing. Turkish officials suggest Khashoggi might still be in the consulate.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised to detail Mr Khashoggi's killing "in all its nakedness", raising worldwide pressure on Saudi Arabia. "He could have known they were bringing him back to Saudi Arabia".
