Pak Vs Aus: Babar Azam, Imad Wasim stars in big win

Imad Wasim's performance with the ball helped Pakistan thrash Australia by 66 runs in the first Twenty20 worldwide in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Australia's hopes of taking the lead in the three-match series were soon over as they made a horrendous start to their reply, slumping to 22-6 with spinning all-rounder Imad taking 3-20 in his first global for a year.

Batting first, Pakistan scored 155 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Second-gamer Ben McDermott's nervous pursuit of a quick single ended in a run out to leave Australia 4-16, while Imad soon had his third wicket when luring Alex Carey into an edge with a delivery which deviated slightly and stayed low. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the top scorer with 34 runs.

Finch's side were bundled out for 89 in the first Twenty20 worldwide against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi with Sarfraz Ahmed's side reducing them to 22 for six in the sixth over.

"Absolutely they'll be looking at changes", Finch said.

The rapid Stanlake was rewarded for a hostile opening spell when he bounced out Fakhar Zaman, but a second-wicket stand of 73 between Babar and Mohammad Hafeez put Pakistan in a strong position.

"Opening the batting, it's my responsibility to get us off to a good start and set up the chase there", Finch said.

But once Hafeez fell in the 14th over, Pakistan lost six wickets for just 28 runs with Sarfraz, Ashraf and Wasim falling without scoring while Shadab made just one.

Babar Azam hit five fours and a six in his 55-ball innings.

Finch stated that the team would need to make serious amendments to their batting technique before the second T20 worldwide at Dubai on Friday.

Stanlake was at his menacing best, picking up 3-21 from his four overs while short-form specialist Tye used all his variations to perfection to snare 3-24 from four overs.

Although both teams are bobbing around mid-table in the Test rankings, their T20 series represents the powerhouse of T20 cricket, with Australia eager to beat Pakistan in the series in order to wrest the top spot in the ICC T20 team rankings away from their hosts.

"I think when that many guys get bowled it's obviously alarming, particularly on a surface that didn't swing a hell of a lot".
