Ukraine to NATO: Send us help against Russian Federation

Ukraine has banned Russian men aged between 16 and 60 from entering the country, amid fears Moscow is planning an invasion.

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has imposed new restrictions on Russian immigration into his country and instituted martial law, warning that recent acts of Russian aggression may indicate an imminent threat of "full-scale war". Moscow seized the ships and captured about 23 sailors, marking a major escalation between two countries that have been at odds since Russia's 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula.

"We ask the Ukrainian side, too, to be sensible because we know that we can only solve things through being reasonable and through dialogue because there is no military solution to these disputes", she said.

He that the one-month period of martial law introduced this week in Ukraine wouldn't restrict travel, cash withdrawals or currency purchases by Ukrainians but Russians will face some constraints.

While NATO condemned the Russian action, the allies will be unlikely to heed Mr Poroshenko's request, which could trigger a confrontation with Russia.

Relations between Kyiv and Moscow have been tense since Crimea became part of Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and it's reported the region still has a large Russian population. "The aggressor-state is striving in any way to prevent the Crimea from returning to Ukraine's jurisdiction, to counterbalance the U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation efforts on the eastern flank of the Alliance and expand its military presence in the Mediterranean", he said. Russian Federation has attempted to exert greater control over the area since annexing Crimea - including opening a bridge linking Russian Federation to the Ukrainian peninsula earlier this year. Until now, Ukraine's church has been under Moscow's control for centuries.

A 2003 treaty between Russian Federation and Ukraine stipulates that agreement from each of the two countries is required for warships from any other country to enter the internal sea.

Russia's Investigative Committee has accused the Ukrainians of illegal border crossing.

Days after Ukraine Navy vessels were fired upon, seized, and their crews taken captive, tensions between Moscow and Kiev continue to percolate.

The servicemen, including two security service agents, were arrested on Sunday, when three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Black Sea tried to enter the Kerch Strait to reach the Sea of Azov.

Trump, however, told the media on the same day that he would consider canceling his scheduled meeting with Putin due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia confrontation near the Kerch Strait. The vessels were blocked from leaving the Sea of Azov via the Kerch Strait by a Russian tanker parked under the new Crimean Bridge.

Putin reiterated the Kremlin's accusation that Poroshenko manufactured the entire incident in order to put Ukraine on a war footing and thereby enhance his flagging support before a March presidential election that he was sure to lose.

The raid is even more sensitive since the cleric in question, Metropolitan Pavel, heads the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, one of Ukraine's most famous monasteries and a tourist site where mummified monks rest in labyrinthine underground caves.

Russia's foreign ministry responded to the temporary ban on Friday, criticizing Ukraine leadership and saying it would not reciprocate.
