FBI investigated four Americans on Russian Federation collusion suspicions, Comey says

President Donald Trump reacted to Friday's House testimony of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in tweets this morning, accusing him of lying repeatedly. Comey said the basis for the probe was "the information we'd received about a conversation that a campaign foreign policy adviser (George Papadopoulos) had with an individual in London about stolen emails that the Russians had that would be harmful to Hillary Clinton".

As the interview with Comey ended, Mueller revealed new details about his Russian Federation investigation in court on Friday in the cases of Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and former personal lawyer Michael Cohen.

Florida Rep. Ted Deutsch said the Republican majority "wishes to only ask questions still about Hillary Clinton's emails, all to distract from the big news today, which is what's happening in court".

"As the special counsel's investigation appears to be closing in on the president and his associates, our Republican colleagues seem intent on spending their final days in power attempting to provide cover to President Trump and attempting to re-litigate the Department of Justice's decision not to prosecute Secretary Clinton", the Democrats said.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said he will end this investigation - which is officially supposed to be examining DOJ and FBI actions in the lead-up to the 2016 elections - when he takes over the committee chairmanship in January.

Former FBI Director James Comey spent several hours behind closed doors during a hearing on Friday - only to leave Republicans frustrated by his lack of cooperation. The California Republican said that Comey showed "gleeful acceptance" of his counsel's instructions to remain silent on certain issues. "But I'm trying to respect the institution and answer questions in a respectful way", he said after the hearing, adding in a tweet: "In the long run, it'll make no difference because facts are stubborn things".

The questioning largely centred on well-covered territory from a Justice Department inspector general report, Comey's own book and interviews and hours of public testimony on Capitol Hill.

"Leakin" James Comey must have set a record for who lied the most to Congress in one day.

"Are you best friends with Robert Mueller?" Rep.

Comey will be appearing a second time, on the 17th of December, to answer further questions - which Comey himself Tweeted about, claiming that wasn't a "search for the truth".

Comey was not under oath, but was warned that lying to the joint House committee could have severe consequences. "I am not", Comey said, telling lawmakers he doesn't know Mueller's phone number, and has no relation with him "in any social sense.' But Comey made clear he is a believer in Mueller".

"The particulars of which Democrats, which Republicans, I wouldn't think would be important to the court", Comey said.

"So it's hard to reconcile that with his being on Team Clinton".

CNN reported this week on the circumstances that prompted McCabe to open an obstruction investigation in the wake of Comey's firing even before Mueller was appointed less than two weeks later. He chose to comply after the committee agreed to give him a full transcript of that testimony within 24 hours, which he is free to make public.
